Sheldon Community Services Center To ‘Reopen’ Thursday

Sheldon, Iowa — In a return to something resembling normalcy, the Sheldon Community Services Center will be unlocking their west door for the first time since mid-March.

Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker says that while the City’s offices were still accessible, by appointment, as of Thursday (June 25th) the west door, main entrance, will be unlocked.

(As above) “We have been open since March, but it’s been by appointment. We will be unlocking the west doors, and we will allow foot traffic in, as normal.”

With one exception, according to Kooiker.

(As above) “Except for the Clerk’s Office. We’ll have a doorbell. We’ll allow one person in at a time, because there isn’t room in our lobby for proper social distancing.”

He says other precautions will be available to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

(As above) “We are offering masks to our employees, (but) we are not requiring it. We’re also not requiring masks for our visitors, but they are encouraged. We do have hand sanitizer when you come in the front door. And then we ask people to, you know, if they don’t need to come in, not to come in. If they need to pay their water bill, that can be done by mail, bill pay, or the west side utility box.”

Kooiker says not everything is opening up right away.

(As above) “We’re working as quickly as possible to return to some sense of normalcy. The meeting rooms at this point are not available for rental. The Pavilion is, however. At some point the Community Building will be open again, but that’s something that will be determined later this summer.”

The Sheldon Community Building has been closed to foot traffic since mid-March when Governor Reynolds ordered restrictions designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Iowa.
