Sheldon Firefighters Honored For Milestone Years Of Service

Sheldon, Iowa — When we see the big yellow trucks of the Sheldon Fire Company roll out we say a little prayer that they’re not headed to OUR house, as well as a silent prayer for those who are affected by whatever emergency the fire department is heading to.

But what do we really know about the people who are IN those big yellow trucks who respond to fires, explosions, car crashes, or any multitude of other calls? They are our friends and neighbors. They are a part of a local emergency services contingent who often miss family dinners, kids and grandkids birthday parties, holiday gatherings and more, to take care of the rest of us during what is often the worst day of our lives. More than 25 men and women from the Sheldon community drop everything and run when that fire pager goes off.

This past Saturday night, the Sheldon Fire Company held their annual Christmas party…to celebrate another safe year for their department members, to thank their spouses for everything they endure throughout the year, and to honor their team members who have reached a milestone number of years as a firefighter.

This year, 5 Sheldon firefighters, with a combined 85-years of service to their community, were recognized during the annual Sheldon Fire Company Christmas Party.

1st Assistant Chief Brad Hindt was recognized for 30-years of service to the department, 2nd Assistant Chief Scott Meineke was recognized for 25-years’ service, Jon Starkenburg was honored for 10-years of service, Karissa Paulsen was recognized for 5-years of service. Although unable to attend the festivities, Captain Chuck Ball was recognized for 15-years of service.
