Sheldon High School Announces Fall Musical

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon High School Theatre Department has announced the name of their fall musical production this year.

Mrs. Jodi Grant has been directing Sheldon High School fall musicals since 1995, and she says this year’s musical is based on a popular 1990 Patrick Swayze film.

(As above) “This year we’ve chosen to do ‘Ghost, the Musical.’ It’s based on the movie ‘Ghost,’ which stars Patrick Swayze, so most people are kind of familiar with that. The musical came out a few years ago on Broadway. This year is a little bit different genre than we’ve done in the past couple of years….we try to change it up, do different genres…so this one is more of a drama, but there’s definitely some comic parts in it, as well.”

Mrs. Grant says performance dates and times have been scheduled, as have alternative contingency plans.

(As above) “We are planning the performances to be Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14th at 7:00 pm, here in the (high school) auditorium. Now, if we HAVE to, if we can’t have a live audience, we can also stream the musical online. So that’s something that we’ve been thinking about in terms of COVID.”

She says this year’s musical has a smaller cast than most of the musicals they’ve done at Sheldon High School.

(As above) “We decided to go with a little bit smaller cast. So the main, principal characters…there are only nine principal characters in the show. And then for the chorus, we wanted to keep it fairly small. We did have a smaller number of people try out because we said the show was going to be smaller, and we ended up having thirty-three people try out for the show. So we’re going to divide up the chorus so that we have smaller choruses and there’s not as many people onstage at the same time, also to help with COVID and social distancing. So that, we think, will help a little bit.”

So whether it’s live, or virtual, the tradition of performing a Sheldon High School fall musical production will continue this year.
