Sheldon Middle School Band To Perform For Iowa Bandmasters

Sheldon, Iowa — One year ago today we told you about an honor that had been bestowed upon the Sheldon High School Band….being selected to perform before the annual Iowa Bandmasters Association Convention in Des Moines.  Now, one year later, the Sheldon Middle School Band has learned that they have been selected for a similar honor.

The Iowa Bandmasters Association’s 2017 convention is scheduled for May 10th through 13th in Des Moines, and the Sheldon Middle School Band will be representing Class 1A and 2A bands when they appear as one of the Association’s honor bands at the convention.

Middle School Band Director Jeana Larson says being accepted to perform for the Bandmasters has been her band’s goal all year.

The Sheldon Middle School Band is one of just seven bands selected as worthy to perform at this year’s convention.  Larson tells us that bands are selected from several categories.

She tells KIWA that she’s really proud of the kids and the hard work they put in to win this honor, but she says now the REAL work begins.

According to the Iowa Bandmasters Association website, in addition to Sheldon Middle School, the bands selected to perform include Harlan 6th Grade Band, South East Junior High Band, Clarinda High School Band, Williamsburg High School Band, Valley High School Jazz Orchestra, and Southeast Polk High School Band.

Larson tells KIWA that the performance schedule for this year’s Iowa Bandmasters Association Honor Bands has yet to be released, but the Sheldon musicians will perform sometime during the May 10th through 13th convention.
