science fair 1Sheldon, Iowa — Last week we told you that Sheldon Science students were set to participate and compete in the State Science Fair, held in Ames.

Sheldon Middle School Science Teacher Jim Gude tells KIWA that Jack Bartz and Elliot Scheaffer finished 3rd in the Animal Science Division for their project which fed different types of feed to two groups of cattle to determine how the type of feed eaten would affect how much bacteria would  grow, and how much would live, in the cattle’s stomachs.  In addition, Bartz and Scheaffer received a citation for an Agricultural Excellence Award from the Schneider Seed and Cattle Corporation for their work.

Other Sheldon State Science Fair participants included Rose Hoogers, Jessica Mohn, Kade Prathan, and Tyrel Lindemann.  All of the Sheldon Middle School scientists received many compliments from their judges on their complete and creative work.
