Sheldon Native Receives Grant

Rachel TannerLake Park, Iowa — A Sheldon native who now teaches at Harris-Lake Park Elementary School is the recipient of a grant from the Northwest Iowa Down Syndrome Society.

Rachel Tanner, the daughter of Scott and Denice DeGoei, and the daughter-in-law of Skip and Patty Tanner, all of Sheldon.  She recently applied for a Buddy Grant from the Downs Syndrome Society, and was named a recipient.  She tells us how the grant came about.

Tanner talks about the plans for the grant’s proceeds.

The Northwest Iowa Down Syndrome Society was formed in 2005, and raise money through their “Buddy Walks”, which help fund parent scholarships to the national convention, along with the Buddy Grants.  They’ll also be offering a student scholarship for a high school senior who wishes to pursue a Special Education teaching degree.

The Buddy Grant received by Tanner was in the amount of $500.
