Sheldon Summer Lunch Program Starts Friday

Sheldon, Iowa — This Thursday, May 31st is the last day of classes for students in the Sheldon Community Schools, which means that Friday, June 1st is the first day for the 2018 Sheldon Summer Lunch Program.

2018 marks the 5th year for the Sheldon Summer Lunch Program, which runs each Monday through Friday beginning the day after Sheldon’s school year ends, until the day before the next school year begins, with all meals served in the basement of the Sheldon United Methodist Church.

Summer Lunch Program Coordinator Tricia Meendering says the program has grown each year.

Meendering says the final touches are being put into place for the beginning of this year’s Summer Lunch Program.

She says the program was originally developed as a place where kids who were on the free or reduced-price lunches during the school year could get a meal during the summer.

Meendering says that the program runs 100% on donations of cash, food, and volunteers.

Meendering says if you’d like to donate to the Sheldon Summer Lunch Program, you should contact her at the Sheldon United Methodist Church.
