Sheldon, Iowa — This Thursday, May 7th is the National Day of Prayer, a day when people from around the country join together in prayer. However, with the current COVID-19 pandemic preventing the normal gatherings of the faithful, things will be done differently this year.
Sheldon’s National Day of Prayer observance will be a virtual experience, with people taking part via their computers.
RISE Ministries founder and president Rob Roozeboom is the speaker for this year’s event, and he gives us a preview of his message.
(As above) “The preview is going to be this theme, that we’ve been talking about in other areas called ‘Hope Lives’, and so during this pandemic or this time of uncertainty, we wanted to bring together those two words, hope lives, that we’ve been talking about it and give a message about that and also kind of tie in a little bit of the verse that is coming to us from Habakkuk this year, chapter two verse fourteen.”
Roozeboom says the virtual National Day of Prayer will give organizers the opportunity to do some things they’ve not been able to do previously.
(As above) “For the first time ever it’s going to be a virtual National Day of Prayer, and so we were able to bring in individuals to shoot them, with a camera, allowing them to do their prayers and different things like that. I had to record the message, actually with nobody there but Ellie, our creative director, so that was a little bit different. You know normally you’re in front of an audience but this time, it was just Ellie.”
He says there’s also an artist who has appeared at RiseFest who will be taking part this year.
(As above) “I’m excited about this as well, because it’s virtual we’re able to bring in an artist that’s gonna do worship for us, during our time on the national day of prayer, who has been with us before at RiseFest, by the name of Cade Thompson. So yes, he was a local student from South Dakota, moved to Nashville, got a record deal and is now back in Nashville. Well, because everything’s been done virtually we could have him shoot something as well and send it to us and it’s all going to be part of the National Day of Prayer, which is pretty exciting.”
The theme for the 2020 National Day of Prayer is, “Pray God’s Glory Across The Earth,” a theme Roozeboom finds very fitting.
(As above) “I don’t know if there could be a more fitting theme this year, and it’s not just across the nation because it is the national day of prayer but across the earth, and with everything we’re experiencing as a human race right now the National Day of Prayer Coordinator to come up with that theme a year ago, long before any of this happened or anybody knew about it, she had put that theme together. ‘Pray God’s Glory Across The Earth, and here a year later with the circumstances that we’re in, I don’t know if it could be more appropriate.”
Sheldon’s observance of the National Day of Prayer will begin at 9:00 am this Thursday, May 7th. To participate, can watch the video at kiwaradio.com, or listen to the program on KIWA-AM 1550 or FM 100.7 on your radio.
