Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community School District Board of Education heard a report on the Middle School gym roof at their regular monthly meeting last (Monday) evening.
Superintendent Robin Spears told the Board that he had met with the insurance adjuster from the District’s carrier, who indicated the insurance company would be covering the expense of replacing the gym roof at the Middle school. Spears says the cost is estimated to be approximately $100,000. Spears told the Board the threshold for bidding a construction project is $100,000. He said that, since the estimated cost of the roof replacement is about $100,000, he thought it would be prudent for the District seek bids for the project, and obtain an architect to put together project specifications and documentation for the bidding process. Spears told the Board that the repairs would have to be completed during the summer of 2018.
In other action, the Board held a public hearing on the proposed Instructional Support Levy Resolution. The resolution would extend the current levy for an additional five years, beginning with the fiscal year ENDING June 30, 2019. No taxpayer rose to speak at the pubic hearing, and Board Secretary LaDonn Hartzell reported that no written comments were received. Following the public hearing, the Board voted to extend the current Instructional Support Levy.
The Board accepted a trio of resignations at their Monday meeting: Tricia Van Meeteren resigned from her Food Service position; Kari Kopperud resigned as Middle School Guidance Counselor; and Teresa Groff is leaving her Elementary Instructional Associate position.
