Spencer, Iowa — A Spencer woman will spend 10-years in a federal penitentiary after her sentencing earlier this week on drug-related conspiracy charges.
Federal officials say 58-year old Alauna Gaye Morris of Spencer received the sentence following an earlier guilty plea to one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine.
Officials say Morris was arrested on a statewide warrant on an unrelated matter, but after law enforcement executed search warrants on her residence and vehicle, officers reportedly seized close to 200 grams of pure methamphetamine, $10,108.82 in cash, a digital scale, and multiple electronic devices.
At sentencing, the government presented evidence that, during the course of the conspiracy, two co-conspirators reached an agreement with Morris in which they would pay $50-thousand for ten pounds of meth. Officials say Morris intended to recruit family members in Utah to manufacture the ten-pound quantity.
Authorities say Morris is being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals until she can be transported to a federal prison.
