Northwest Iowa — Law enforcement officers will be out in force this 4th of July weekend in an attempt to keep motorists safe on Iowa’s roads.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull says have fun this 4th of July weekend, but celebrate sensibly.
Trooper Krull says this weekend marks another in a series of Special Traffic Enforcement Programs.
As for seatbelt use, Krull offered a sobering statistic. Approximately 6% of people on Iowa roads don’t wear their seatbelts. And that 6% account for 44% of the fatalities on Iowa roads annually.
He says right now we are in the middle of what he calls the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” on Iowa roads.
Trooper Krull says there are four major things you should pay attention to this weekend, and every time you get behind the wheel.
So remember to slow down, buckle up, set your cell phone to “do not disturb”, and make sure you have a sober driver for this weekend’s celebration.
