Twitter Encourages Users To Change Password

Northwest Iowa — If you’re a Twitter user you’ll soon be receiving notice from the social networking giant that you need to change your password.

Twitter users’ passwords are supposed to be masked so that no one in their company can see your password. However, Twitter management says they recently identified a bug in their system that stored passwords, UNmasked in an internal log. Twitter says they have fixed the bug, and their internal investigation shows no indication of breach or misuse by anyone.

However, Twitter is asking users, out of an abundance of caution, to change their passwords on Twitter, and every other service where you have used your current Twitter password.

According to a release from Twitter, the bug that caused some passwords to be stored unmasked was discovered by Twitter employees, who then removed those passwords, and Twitter says they are now implementing plans to prevent this bug from happening again.

In the meantime, they strongly encourage all Twitter users to change their account password, using a strong password that they’re not using for any other platform on the internet.
