Two Dead After Vehicle Hits People, Building In Alcester

Alcester, South Dakota — Two people are dead after a car hit a group of people and a building just west of our area on Monday morning.

According to South Dakota Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Tony Mangan, the crash happened about 9:30 on Monday morning, when a vehicle hit a group of people outside Alcester Care and Rehab Center on Church Street in Alcester. Mangan confirms that two people have died as a result of the crash.

He says an additional six people, including the driver of the vehicle, are injured and have been taken to various area hospitals. Some of the ambulances responding were from Hawarden and Ireton.

Mangan says the South Dakota Highway Patrol believes this was an unintentional act.

Names have not been released, and the investigation continues.
