Two Fire Departments Called To Ireton Area Fire

Ireton, Iowa — Two fire departments were called out to a fire on Friday night, September 29, 2017, near Ireton.

According to Ireton Fire Chief Richard Steckelberg, about 8:50 p.m., the Ireton Fire Department was called to the report of a structure fire at 2565 500th Street, three and a half miles south of Ireton and two miles east.

The chief says the occupant of the property was burning down an old grain bin, but the fire got out of hand, so the fire department was paged. He says the fire department saw the bin was fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they doused the bin with water to fight the fire and protect the remaining buildings on the farm place.

Steckelberg says no injuries were reported. He says the Maurice Fire Department was also asked to bring a water tanker to the scene, which they did.

Chief Steckelberg reports that nothing besides the bin was damaged.

He says they used 20,000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about an hour and a half.
