Sioux Center, Hull Fire Departments Put Out House Fire

Sioux Center, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, about 6:15 a.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of smoke coming from the roof of a house at the home of Tim Terharr at 138 Second Avenue Northeast.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke coming from roof vents as they approached the scene. He says the insulation was burning in the attic, and they ended up cutting some charred rafters and taking some insulation out. Van Holland says they poured water on the smoldering insulation outside of the home and didn’t use any water inside, so there was no water damage to the house.

Van Holland says no injuries were reported, and damage was minimal.

He says the Hull Fire Department responds to all Sioux Center fire calls, and they assisted as well.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to have been electrical in nature.

Chief Van Holland says they used minimal water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for less than an hour. He says it’s a good thing the fire was caught when it was, as it could have been much worse.
