Northwest Iowa — This Friday is Veterans Day in the United States — a day set aside to give honor and thanks to the brave men and women who have proudly served in our nation’s armed forces.
Several communities are honoring our veterans in some very special ways. Some of the events are actually on Veterans Day — Friday — and some are on other days.
St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, in cooperation with Sheldon American Legion Post #145, will be holding a Veteran’s Day Program at the church in Sheldon on Friday, November 11, 2016. The program will begin at 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend. The church is at 310 10th Street.
There will be a Veteran’s Day Program at Sheldon Christian School on Thursday, November 10th, 2016. This event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and take place in the Sheldon Christian School Gym. The public is invited to attend.
American Legion Post 329 of Orange City will have their annual Veterans Day Dinner on Tuesday, November 15th at 6 p.m. at the Orange City First Reformed Church Fellowship Hall. All veterans and spouses are welcome and you don’t have to be an American Legion member to attend. RSVP to Arlyn Kleinwolterink by Thursday, November 10th at 712-737-4005.
Photos are wanted of veterans in their uniform for the Rock Rapids Veterans Day Program on November 11. Contact Lee Klosterbuer for more information at 712-472-2483. The Rock Rapids Veterans Day Program will be on Friday, November 11th at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Lyon High School.
Rock Valley Elementary will be hosting their annual Veterans Day Program on November 10th this year as there is no school on November 11th. The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and the entire community is invited to attend. After the program veterans and their spouses are invited to stay for lunch.
An event to commemorate Veterans Day will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in the Sibley-Ocheyedan High School gymnasium in Sibley. There will be a short program with coffee, bars and ice cream to follow.
In George, the Veterans Day program will be on Friday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m. It will be at the George-Little Rock High School Gym. The colors will be posted by the Jack Sauter American Legion Post #404. GLR speech students will speak. After the ceremony, they will proceed to the George Good Samaritan Home for a short program.
