Sheldon, Iowa — A local provider of services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is announcing a matching gift challenge to help with a capital campaign.
Village Northwest Unlimited has announced their intention to embark on a capital campaign entitled Building On Our Promise. As part of this capital campaign, Village Northwest Unlimited officials say they are excited to announce the matching gift challenge from a passionate supporter of the project.
VNU officials tell us that the Lori and David Scott Foundation, long-time friends and supporters of Village Northwest Unlimited and its mission, have announced their intentions to support the “Building On Our Promise” campaign. We are told that the foundation has created the opportunity where they will match dollar for dollar, any pledges or immediate cash donations, up to a total of $500,000.
Barry Whitsell, President and CEO of Village Northwest Unlimited says that Lori and David Scott have been very instrumental over the years to the success of the Village and they are passionate about improving the lives of people in their philanthropy efforts. Whitsell says they believe in the Village mission of Purpose, Privacy and Dignity and with their generous matching gift challenge “…we hope it will motivate others to give generously so we can successfully complete our campaign.”
The money will go toward building homes in which people who are receiving services will live, and toward “more equitable” compensation of VNU employees.
The Building On Our Promise campaign seeks to raise $3 million through two components. The first component of the capital campaign is to raise $2.5 million to build two Intermediate Care Facility homes for the Intellectually Disabled (ICF-ID) on the Village campus, located at 330 Village Circle in Sheldon. These six bedroom homes will replace one of the original twelve bedroom homes on campus which is nearing the end of its useful life.
The second component of the campaign has been designated at $500,000 to be applied toward the Robert D. and Esther Hoogeveen Legacy Endowment for Direct Support Professionals. This endowment was created in 2008 to more equitably compensate Village employees called Direct Support Professionals who provide the hands-on care for the persons with disabilities served at the Village.
Since 2015 Village Northwest Unlimited has built four new ICF-ID level of care homes and this project is a continuation of the process to create homes that meet the care needs of the people served at the Village. Ryan Haack, Director of Development, commented, “As we have been talking to families and other supporters about the need to update our homes at the Village they have been very eager to join our campaign and know that their gifts are making a difference in the lives of the people served at the Village. People want to know that their gifts are helping our residents and with our first four homes and now these next two they can see first-hand the impact of their gift”.
