Sioux Falls, SD – Looks like we could see some significant snowfall tonight into tomorrow in northwest Iowa.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for heavy snow from midnight tonight to 3 PM tomorrow.
We talked with National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp and he told us what we can expect.
Snow is expected to develop around midnight west of Interstate 29 and move into northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota after midnight. Snowfall is expected to be heaviest around the morning commute. Snow will taper off during the afternoon across the area.
Heitkamp says northeast winds are expected on Wednesday afternoon.
It looks like the wind may produce drifting especially on east-west roads.
Heitkamp says there may be some freezing rain west of our area near Yankton and Lake Andes, but only snow is expected in northwest Iowa.
The National Weather Service advises people to be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities. They suggest caution if you have to drive.
