Foodie Friday:

Candy corn is made of sugar, corn syrup, water, fondant and marshmallows. All the ingredients are then melted together to form a slurry. Orange, red and yellow (and sometimes black) coloring is then added, before the mixture is molded into a corn shape.

But after compiling surveys from sites like BuzzFeed, Business Insider, the Huffington Post and Bon Appetit, the least favorite Halloween candy – once again – is candy corn.

Lighter-than-air natural gas (methane) should not be confused with liquefied petroleum gas. This gas is more commonly called L.P., bottle gas, propane, butane and various other trade names. Liquefied petroleum gases are all heavier than air and will collect in low places when not confined.

It’s National Meatloaf Appreciation Day!

The earliest known recipes for meatloaf-like dishes were created in the 1st century AD and it included minced meat, dried fruits and wine-soaked bread.

As far as the earliest known recipes for the United States, in the 18th century German immigrants to Pennsylvania created scrapple – a dish made from ground pork, cornmeal, and other parts of a slaughtered pig. Scrapple is considered the American precursor to meatloaf.

Knowledge Nugget:

Wine snobs may snub screw-off caps in place of natural corks, but a study found they have no reason to whine. A blind taste test done by researchers for Oregon State University found that the stopper – be it natural cork, synthetic cork, or a cap – makes no discernible difference in taste.

However, in a second study, consumers who were given a choice between the two kinds of stoppers were much more likely to choose corked wine, saying it was of better quality.
