IARN — It’s tough to market any product, but, in recent years, it has become even more difficult for beef producers since they have to compete with the Big 4 meat packers. You just can’t expect the average producer to be able to keep up with huge, multi-million-dollar companies, especially when said companies distort the marketplace to increase their profits.
In an effort to level out the playing field, Iowa 4th District Congressman Randy Feenstra and 3rd District Congresswoman Cindy Axne introduced an updated Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act. Feenstra said the legislation aims to expose the Big 4’s price-fixing schemes and hold them accountable for their actions.
