Alton Man Sentenced to Up to 10 Years in Storm Lake Sex Abuse Case

Storm Lake, Iowa (KAYL) — An Alton man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a minor in Storm Lake.

Dany Duarte, 49, of Alton was sentenced Monday in Buena Vista County District Court by Judge Shayne Mayer.

According to the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office, the case began after a report was made in June alleging Duarte had inappropriately touched a minor without consent. The victim disclosed the incident to family members the same day, and the matter was reported to the Storm Lake Police Department.

Duarte was arrested June 7th and charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony. He entered a guilty plea to the charge Sept. 21st.

On Monday, Duarte was sentenced to a prison term not to exceed 10 years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Following his release, Duarte will be required to register as a sex offender and remain under parole supervision for the rest of his life.

The case was investigated by the Storm Lake Police Department and prosecuted by Buena Vista County Attorney Paul Allen.
