April Wetter Than Normal, But In Winter ’25-’26 We Received Below Normal Snowfall

Sheldon, Iowa — The month of April was a little wetter than normal in Sheldon. And we ended the snowfall season nearly five inches below normal.

According to the weather facts collected by KIWA Radio, the highest high was 86 degrees, recorded on April 16th, 21st, and 22nd. The lowest high temperature was 37 degrees, recorded on both April 2nd and 3rd.

The lowest low in the month was 19 on April 6th. The highest low was 54 on April 22nd.

The average high for the month was 61. The normal is 58. The average low was 34. The normal is 35. The average temperature as-a-whole for the month was 48 degrees, and normally it’s 47.

We received 3.44 inches of precipitation for April. A normal April sees 2.46, so we were 0.98 above normal for the month. Year-to-date precip has been 4.6 inches. Normal year-to-date precip would be 5.2 inches, so we’re 0.6 inches below normal on the year. The day with the most precip was April 26th, when we received 1.05 inches of rain.

We received no snow in April. Normal snowfall for April is 1.9 inches, so we ended the month 1.9 inches below normal. Since September first, we’ve received 31.9 inches. Normal would be 36.8, so we ended the normal snowfall season 4.9 inches below normal.
