Hospers, Iowa — If you’re someone who often travels between Sheldon and Sioux Center — or anyone else who uses the blacktop going west out of Hospers — there’s good news. Your commute just got shorter again.

On Friday, July 31st, we received word from the Sioux County Engineer’s Office that County Road B-40 is open once again between Hospers and K-64 (the Orange City blacktop).

Sioux County Engineer Joel Sikkema says a concrete overlay was completed on that section of roadway. The road had been closed since April.

Sikkema says while this kind of work takes longer than other kinds of work, the B-40 overlay is expected to last 40 to 50 years based on the performance of other concrete roads.
