(KIWA Staff Photo)Rock Valley, Iowa — A Boyden man was taken to the hospital after a crash in Rock Valley on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The Rock Valley Police Department reports that at about 1:30 p.m., 17-year-old Micah Blom of Inwood was driving a 2017 Ram pickup eastbound on Highway 18 in Rock Valley. They tell us that 46-year-old Jesse Van Diepen of Boyden was also eastbound 18 in a 2021 Toyota pickup.
The report says that Van Diepen had stopped for a non-contact turning vehicle. Blom says he was adjusting the radio and did not see that Van Diepen was stopped. Blom struck the other pickup from behind.
The Rock Valley Ambulance took Van Diepen to Hegg Health Center Avera Hospital due to complaints of neck and back pain. Blom didn’t report any injuries.
The Blom Ram pickup sustained $5,000 in damages, and the Van Diepen Toyota pickup sustained $7,000 in damages.
Blom was cited on a charge of following too closely.
