(KIWA Staff Photo)Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Colorado Springs man faces two felony charges and four misdemeanor counts following an alleged domestic assault at a Sioux Center hotel early Sunday, September 20th.
37-year-old Christopher Michael Burruss was arrested by Sioux Center Police after an incident at the Holiday Inn, 100 St. Andrews Way.
Police Respond to Report of Screaming
According to criminal complaints filed in Sioux County District Court, officers were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report of screaming from a guest room.
In supporting affidavits, police say they observed visible marks on a woman’s face, neck, and arm. The woman told officers Burruss had applied pressure to her neck, leaving her unable to breathe.
Police reported the condition of the room was consistent with her account of the alleged assault.
Both Burruss and the woman told officers a protective order was in effect. Officers reviewed the order and confirmed it remained active at the time.
Police also reported that three children, shared by Burruss and the woman, were present and witnessed the alleged assault.
Charges and Release
Burruss was cited on the following charges:
- Domestic abuse assault impeding air or blood flow causing bodily injury — Class D felony
- Assault by a person subject to a protective order — Class D felony
- Three counts of child endangerment — aggravated misdemeanors
- Violation of a no-contact/protective order — simple misdemeanor
Burruss was held on a $16,300 cash or surety bond and was released on September 20th through a bondsman.
