Deputy Jett Talks Drones In Law Enforcement

O’Brien County, Iowa — Drones are being used more and more in this day and age, and one of the places their use is growing is in law enforcement.

One of O’Brien County’s Sheriff Deputies is especially interested in this topic because he is not only a law enforcement officer, he’s also a pilot. Jett Korver tells us about the drone that the sheriff’s office uses.

He says they’ve also helped farmers find lost livestock. Korver says they often use drones in combination with other tools, such as K9 units. He tells us about apprehending a suspect after they fled from a traffic stop.

He says the drone they use is not like an off-the-shelf drone that anyone can buy at a discount store.

Korver says there are many advantages to drones over airplanes. Number one among them — that the drone can hover and move very slowly, while airplanes have to keep going 50 to 60 miles per hour just to stay in the air.
