Do Iowans’ Pets Really Want to Be Dressed Up for Halloween?

Iowa (RI) — Halloween can be fun for pet owners, but animal experts say costumes should never come at the expense of a pet’s comfort or safety.

Megan Matamoros, director of shelter operations at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, says pet costumes come in all shapes and sizes, but choosing the correct fit is critical.

Matamoros says owners should also make sure costumes do not interfere with a pet’s senses or movement.

Some pets simply do not enjoy wearing costumes. Matamoros says owners should pay attention to signs that an animal is uncomfortable or stressed.

The Animal Rescue League’s Animal House Store in Des Moines is offering a variety of pet costumes through next weekend. For more information, visit the Animal Rescue League’s website.
