(KIWA Staff Photo)Northwest Iowa — Farmers, if you have a cornfield along a state or US highway, there’s a possibility that the Iowa DOT could use your help, and you could be money ahead. Former Northwest Iowa resident and the Iowa DOT’s winter operations administrator, Craig Bargfrede, tells us about a program in which farmers are paid to leave standing corn along the highway.
He tells us what to do if you’re interested in helping them out.
And speaking of payment, it’s a pretty good deal, says Bargfrede.
He says it’s an effective program and there are other things you can do to help besides leaving standing corn rows.
The DOT also pays farmers to leave standing round bales in place in key locations during the winter.
