Joe Herring, a district forester with the DNR in Iowa Falls, says the timing is right on schedule.
Herring says Iowans in cities may notice color changes earlier than those in rural areas.
Much of Iowa saw significant rainfall during the past week, but Herring says that likely won’t have a major impact on the fall color season.
Peak color in central Iowa typically arrives around mid-October, with northern Iowa turning earlier and southern Iowa later. Herring says other factors could impact how vibrant the reds, oranges, and yellows appear this year.
Autumn arrives Tuesday just after 7 p.m.
