Rock Valley, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Rock Valley woman and former West Lyon softball coach has been arrested on two new charges less than two weeks after she was sentenced in a student sexual-exploitation case.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrest log says 27-year-old Alexis Ann Severson was arrested Sunday, August 23rd, in Rock Valley.

Severson is charged with violating a no-contact order and a first-offense violation of Iowa’s sex offender registry requirements, listed as an aggravated misdemeanor.

Authorities say the no-contact allegation involves the student from Severson’s original sexual-exploitation case. Available arrest information does not specify what conduct led to the separate sex-offender-registry charge.

Severson was released from the Sioux County Jail on Monday, August 24th, after posting a $2,000 cash-or-surety bond.

Arrest Follows Recent Sentencing

The arrest came 13 days after Severson was sentenced in Lyon County District Court.

Severson originally faced:

  • Three Class D felony counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee
  • One Class D felony count of grooming

She later pleaded guilty to:

  • One Class D felony count of sexual exploitation by a school employee
  • One amended aggravated-misdemeanor count of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist

Another sexual-exploitation count and the grooming charge were dismissed.

On the felony count, Severson received a deferred judgment, a $1,025 civil penalty, and two to five years of probation. On the aggravated-misdemeanor count, the court imposed an indeterminate term of up to two years, but suspended the incarceration. She was also assessed an $855 fine and surcharges.

The court continued a no-contact order involving the student and required Severson to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Original Case Involved West Lyon Student

Severson was arrested October 31st, 2025, after an investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. Court documents alleged she had a sexual relationship with a West Lyon student over an extended period while serving as the school’s head softball coach.

The new charges remain allegations. Court records reviewed for this update did not confirm whether Severson’s probation has been formally revoked.
