State officials and financial supporters will host an event this fall on the Iowa Capitol Grounds to mark the 250th anniversary of America’s independence.

Governor Kim Reynolds says America’s Harvest Festival, set for October 24th, will showcase how Iowa agriculture has helped shape the nation.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, co-chair of Iowa’s America 250 Task Force, says it’s fitting that the celebration will be held during harvest season.

Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer, the task force’s other co-chair, says the festival will be the capstone of their work.

Displays will be set up on the grounds outside the Iowa Capitol Building, with historical reenactments, live music, and vendors selling Iowa products. Reynolds says there will be plenty of food.

The event begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24th and will conclude at sunset.

As of Wednesday, financial sponsors include Hy-Vee, Fareway, Iowa Farm Bureau, Caesar’s Entertainment, and Growth Energy.
