Ankeny, Iowa (RI) — Senate Majority Leader John Thune was in Iowa on Friday, campaigning with Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, the Republican from Marion who’s running for the U.S. Senate.
Friday afternoon, Hinson and Thune hosted a discussion with a group of Iowans who said they’d benefited from the tax provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill President Trump signed last July.
Hinson and Thune touted the Trump Accounts, which let parents who are US citizens deposit up to $2,500 a year into a child’s account, without paying taxes on that money. And every baby born between January 1st of last year and December 31st of 2028 is eligible for a one-thousand-dollar contribution from the federal government to their account. Private firms will manage the accounts and children will not be able to make withdrawals until they turn 18.
