Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session Wednesday afternoon in the council chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center.
Due to the absence of a council member who wanted to be present for the annual evaluation of City Manager Sam Kooiker, the evaluation was postponed until the May 20th meeting.
The council approved the consent agenda. Click here for more information.
They heard about the Surviving Forward Walk, which is to be on May 30th, and gave their approval.
No one spoke during the public comment period for the recycling and garbage resolutions, and there were no written comments either. The council approved a contract amendment and a rate increase.
The council awarded contracts on the West Highway 18 and D Street and the Wyman and 16th culvert replacement projects, and passed a resolution accepting easements for the 18 and D Street project.
Regarding the possible Tax Increment Financing or TIF incentive for a Beck Engineering building, Kooiker says they should probably wait, as legislation just passed but has not yet been signed by the governor, which may not allow a TIF for a new building. City Council Member Tom Eggers wants to hear from the state before making a decision. They decided to table the issue indefinitely, hoping for more definitive information. If TIF doesn’t work, another tool may be tax abatement, says City Manager Sam Kooiker.
