Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Sioux Center will celebrate its Highway 75 reconstruction project with a community ribbon-cutting event on Monday, Oct. 12th, ahead of the highway’s anticipated reopening to through traffic sometime in November.
The City of Sioux Center and the Iowa Department of Transportation are inviting the public to attend the event from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Central Park.
Program and Community Celebration
A program featuring representatives from the Iowa DOT, city officials, and project partners will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Highway 75 alongside the park.
Free refreshments from a variety of Sioux Center restaurants will be available throughout the event in Central Park.
Mayor Dale Vander Berg said the celebration marks the culmination of more than a decade of planning and four years of construction, adding that the project is something the entire community can celebrate together.
City officials said that the Oct. 12th event does not mark the reopening of Highway 75 to through traffic. Instead, they chose to hold the celebration earlier in hopes of better weather and to provide an opportunity for community members to participate before the roadway fully opens, which is expected sometime in November.
Rebuilding Highway 75
The project rebuilt 2.5 miles of Highway 75 through Sioux Center as an enhanced four-lane roadway featuring two travel lanes in each direction, medians, and a center turn lane.
Improvements also include sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, storm sewer infrastructure, and streetscape features, along with significant upgrades to city utilities.
The multi-year reconstruction project began in 2023 and replaced the aging roadway with a design focused on improving safety, traffic flow, and community character.
Central Park is located at 502 N. Main Ave. In the event of rain, the celebration will move to Fire Station 1 at 408 N. Main. Ave.
