(KIWA Staff Photo)Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Sioux Falls woman faces 10 drug-related charges, including a Class C felony, after a weekend traffic stop in Sioux Center.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Michelle Marie Hawkwing was arrested at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday. Hawkwing was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle stopped for an equipment violation. Court complaints indicate the stop occurred shortly before midnight Saturday on Ninth Street Southeast.
Methamphetamine, Scales Allegedly Found
Authorities say K9 Rocky was deployed during the stop and alerted to the presence of a controlled substance inside the vehicle.
According to the complaints, officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found liquid methamphetamine inside three syringes. The syringes were reportedly in a black bag containing a credit card belonging to Hawkwing.
Officers also allegedly found:
- a separate baggie containing methamphetamine
- three scales with meth residue
- several small baggies
- cannabidiol products
- a marijuana pipe
The complaints allege Hawkwing was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle during the search and attempted to conceal a meth pipe beneath the seat.
Ten Charges Filed
The Sheriff’s Office says Hawkwing is cited on charges of:
- Possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver — Class C Felony
- Three counts of possession of methamphetamine
- Three counts of possession of cannabidiol
- One count of possession of marijuana
- Two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia
The felony complaint alleges the case involves no more than five grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine.
The seven controlled-substance possession charges are listed as serious misdemeanors, and the two paraphernalia charges are simple misdemeanors.
Hawkwing was taken to the Sioux County Jail, where she remained on a $15,600 cash or surety bond as of the latest report.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department.
