Spencer, Iowa (KUOO) — Anglers will have another opportunity to catch trout in Iowa this fall.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says about 1,500 rainbow trout will be stocked at 20 locations across the state as part of its cool-weather trout program.

The program brings trout to waters that cannot support the species during the summer months. One of the scheduled stockings will take place Nov. 7th at Stolley Pond in Spencer.

The program is funded through revenue generated by Iowa’s trout fee.

Anglers must have a valid Iowa fishing license and pay the trout fee to fish for or possess trout.

The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler, with a possession limit of 10. Children age 15 or younger can fish with a properly licensed adult but are limited to one daily limit. Children may also purchase a trout fee, allowing them to keep their own limit.
