UPDATE: Names Released – Two People Killed In Orange City Fire

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City couple has died as the result of a house fire on Friday morning, January 19th, 2024.

The Sioux County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a residence at 604 Albany Avenue NE, in Orange City at 6:50 a.m.

Orange City Fire Chief Dan Roghair says the Orange City Fire Department and Orange City Ambulance Squad responded and discovered a single-family dwelling that was filled with smoke. Aid was requested from several area fire departments.

Upon entering the residence, firefighters discovered 79-year-old Arlan and 82-year-old Linda Egdorf, both of Orange City, had died as a result of their injuries. They were pronounced deceased by the Sioux County Medical Examiner.

Roghair says the house was a total loss with damage of over $100,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Orange City Fire Chief and Iowa State Fire Marshal.

Fire departments from Alton, Hospers, Granville, Sioux Center, and Le Mars, the Orange City Police Department, and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the response to the fire call.

Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City couple has died as the result of a house fire on Friday morning, January 19th, 2024.

According to KELOLAND News, as of late Friday morning, fire crews were still on scene at a home in the northern part of the city near Albany Avenue NE and 7th Street NE.

Orange City’s fire chief told KELOLAND News that two people died in the fire, which started overnight and was reported around 7 a.m. Friday. Chief Dan Roghair says an older couple lived in the home.

At last report, smoke could be seen still coming from the home. Crews have brought in an excavator to tear down the house.

Roghair says they are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Sioux County Emergency Management Director Nate Huizenga says authorities hope to release more information soon.
