Sheldon, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Sheldon man is facing felony charges after an undercover online investigation by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say 39-year-old Christopher James Kopel was arrested Monday afternoon. Investigators say Kopel engaged in explicit online conversations with an undercover deputy who was posing as a 15-year-old boy from Sioux County.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kopel allegedly tried to arrange a meeting with the juvenile for an unlawful sex act. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sioux County Jail.

Kopel is cited on the charges of Enticing a Minor and Grooming, both Class D felonies.

The Sheldon Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Authorities remind the public that criminal charges are only allegations, and Kopel is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
