Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon institution of higher education has received a gift from a group that they’ve been assisting.
Officials with Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon tell us that the Valley Pullers, Inc. recently presented the college with a $3,000 donation. They say it was in appreciation of the volunteer hours provided by students in the Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance program during the annual Thunder in the Valley event, held July 9–11, 2026, in Rock Valley.
NCC officials tell us the gift was presented in two parts. The first part is $2,000 that will fund two $1,000 scholarships for students enrolled in Diesel Technology, Automotive & Light Duty Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance, Engineering Design, Design Technology, Production Welding, or Advanced Welding Technology programs, with priority given to residents of the Rock Valley area. The second gift is for $1,000, which will support program needs within NCC’s Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance program.
Rich Rozeboom, President and Promotion Director for Thunder in the Valley, shared his gratitude:
“This event is a true team effort, and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who helps make it happen. The Heavy Equipment students and their instructor contribute many hours and a tremendous amount of energy, and their commitment is a big reason the event continues to be so successful. We’re also thankful to Northwest Iowa Community College for its partnership and for providing the opportunity to work with their students and dedicated faculty.”
