(Logo Courtesy of the Great Plains Athletic Conference)Sioux City, Iowa – A Northwestern College Red Raider and a Dordt University Defender have earned Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Cross-Country Runner-of-the-Week honors as announced by the GPAC Wednesday, September 30th.
Joy Koole of Dordt University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Koole, a sophomore from Windsor, Colorado, was the top NAIA runner at the Augustana Invitational held last weekend at the Yankton Trails Park. She finished eighth overall against NAIA, NCAA D-II and D-III competition and ran a program-record time of 21:08, seven seconds faster than the previous record.
Koole’s time is the third-fastest 6K time in the NAIA at this point of the season. She helped lead the second-ranked Defenders to a third-place finish, best among NAIA teams competing.
Caleb Tofteland of Northwestern College is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Tofteland, a sophomore from Wichita, Kansas, was the top NAIA finisher at the Augustana Invitational, placing 11th in the field.
He ran a PR time of 24:43.1, which is second all-time in Northwestern 8K history.
