Dordt Softball Drops Two On Tuesday

Kissimmee, Florida — The Dordt softball team dropped both Tuesday contests in Florida. The Defenders fell to William Penn 5-2, and dropped a 6-3 contest to Warner.

Dordt used a three-hit 1st inning to score the first run, as Hannah Sikkema hit a leadoff single to start the game. Sikkema advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored off of Hailey Heeringa’s two-out single.

William Penn took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, using a four-hit inning to take a 2-1 lead. They scored three in the second to extend the lead to four runs.

With two outs in the 7th inning, the Defenders looked to string together a series of hits. Jessica Oules hit a shallow single to reach base. In the next at-bat, Hannah Sikkema hit a double deep to left field, scoring Oules. William Penn pitcher Bianca Castillo got the third out on a foul pop fly.

Hannah Sikkema went 3-4 with 1 RBI. Hailey Heeringa was 2-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored. Jessica Oules scored a run on a 1-3 day at the plate.

The Defenders played Warner for their second game of the day the Royals took the second game of the day 6-3.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Warner scored their first run of the game on a single to right field, and went up 2-0 following a fielder’s choice on a groundout.

Dordt tied the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a single from Kenzie Cunard. On the next at-bat, Jessica Oules scored as Hannah Sikkema reached first. Warner got out of the inning, leaving the score tied at 2 heading into the 4th.

With the bases loaded in the top of the 4th, Warner’s Kasey Heslin singled down the left field line to break the tie. Warner added onto their lead with a sacrifice fly to score one more run in the inning.

The score was 4-2 going into the final inning of play, and Warner added to their lead on back-to-back home runs by Ashton Owen and Breyonna Shell.

With two outs in Dordt’s half of the inning, Kenzie Cunard hit an RBI single into center to score Jessica Flaherty. Dordt had two runners on base down three runs, but Warner made it out of the inning to conclude the game.

Kenzie Cunard was 2-4 with 2 RBI, Jessica Oules was 2-4 with 1 run scored, and Hailey Heeringa was 1-3 with a double.

Hits were 10-8 in favor of Warner and Warner hit 2 home runs

Dordt will play Florida National at 1:30 pm and Keiser at 3:45 Wednesday in Kissimmee, Florida.
