Emmetsburg’s Kassel No Hits Orabs, Budden Tosses Two Hitter

Emmetsburg, Iowa — Emmetsburg’s Lex Kassel no hit Sheldon in the first round of the 2A District 2 baseball tournament in Emmetsburg Monday night.

Sheldon’s Aubren Budden  threw no hit ball through 5 innings not surrendering a hit until the bottom of the 6th inning.

The E-Hawks got a run in the first inning as Lex Kassel led off with a walk and stole a pair of bases before he scored from third on a ground ball out from Cole Keller.

Emmetsburg added a run in the fourth as catcher Keaton Duhn was hit by a pitch.  Courtesy runner Seth Freeman stole second and advanced to third on another  ground out by Keller. He scored on a sac fly to center by Grant Kibbie to make it 2-0.

Emmetsburg scored 3 runs on the only 2 hits off Budden in the bottom of the sixth as Ryan Brennan and Cole Keller each singled and scored. Kassel also reached on a walk and scored. Keller had an rbi and Kibbie added a sac fly to right to score Keller and make the final 5-0.

With the win Emmetsburg advances to Tuesday’s semifinal round in Estherville. The E-Hawks will take a 16-11 record into the 5:00 pm game against Spirit Lake who got a first round bye. Sheldon ends the year at 4-17.

Sibley Ocheyedan downed Okoboji 7-1 in the early game at Emmetsburg. They will play Estherville Lincoln Central in the 7:00 pm game on Tuesday night.
