(KIWA Staff Photo)Dyersville, Iowa (RI) — Major League Baseball is bringing big-league action back to Dyersville next Thursday when the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies meet at the permanent Field of Dreams stadium for the first time since 2022.
Jeremiah Yolkut, MLB’s senior vice president of global events, says the setting drives home what the movie was all about.
Yolkut says the site now includes permanent locker rooms and upgraded fan amenities, including actual restrooms.
Yolkut says the MLB worked closely with Dyersville events while designing the ballpark.
The field dimensions remain the same as the 2021 and 2022 games, but the stadium is now permanent. Murray Cook, MLB’s official field consultant, says the farm property has fully transformed into a Major League venue.
Events begin Tuesday with a Triple-A game between the Iowa Cubs and St. Paul Saints, followed by the High School All-American Game on Wednesday. Yolkut says Wednesday’s game will be played in front of a crowd of scouts.
The Tuesday and Wednesday games will air on MLB Network, while the Twins-Phillies game will stream on Netflix. Gabe Spitzer, Netflix’s vice president of sports, says Kevin Costner will be part of the broadcast in some form.
Spitzer says the goal is not to overshadow the game itself.
Netflix previously aired the Yankees-Giants Opening Night matchup and the Home Run Derby on July 13th.
Friday is reserved as a potential makeup date.
Local people hired for the “tarp crew” will begin training this weekend. MLB officials say 25 Hall of Famers will attend the Field of Dreams game, the largest gathering of Hall of Famers since the 2008 All-Star Game.
