Sheldon, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College hosted its annual athletics media day on Monday, bringing together coaches and student‑athletes from across the department as the Thunder prepares for the 2026-27 season.

The media day included remarks from President John Hartog, Athletic Director Eric Francis, as well as representatives for men’s and women’s soccer, coed sports shooting, and the newly added volleyball and golf programs. Each outlined their expectations for the fall and offered updates on roster development.

We spoke with Athletic director Eric Francis, who says each program defines success differently, but they all share a common purpose.

Francis says NCC continues to see growth in its international student‑athlete population, particularly in soccer.

Looking ahead, Francis says the college is exploring ways to expand its athletic calendar, though details remain under wraps.

Francis, who joined NCC in 2024, says the department and community have been welcoming.

Several student-athletes were also in attendance to take questions from the media.
