Orabs Split With Dutch

Sheldon, Iowa —Orabs split a Siouxland conference double with MOC-Floyd Valley. The Orab girls took the opener at the Orena 59-46 and the boys came up short 73-58.

MOC Floyd Valley took the early lead in the girls’ contest but scrappy defense pushed the Orabs in front 10-8 at the 1:43 mark of the first quarter and led at the end of one 12-10. The second quarter was a back and forth battle until the last couple of minutes of the quarter the Orabs went on a 11-0 run to end the half behind eight second quarter points from Brooklyn Grady, Sheldon led at intermission 32-23. The third quarter was back and forth, and Raegan Freeman would drain a 3 at the buzzer giving the Orabs a 46-38 lead and momentum going into the fourth. The Orabs would hit some big free throws down the stretch to seal the victory 59-46.

The Orabs had three players in double figures led by 19 from Grady and 10 a piece from Raegan Freeman and Maliah Kleinhesselink. The Dutch were led by Jazlin De Haan with 18 points.

The Orabs improved to 4-11 overall and 4-9 in Siouxland play and the Dutch fell to 7-6 overall and 6=6 in the Conference.

The boys contest was started slow but MOC Floyd Valley started to heat up forcing the Orabs to take timeout to slow the momentum. Three pointers started falling for the Dutch pushing them out to a 20-11 lead at the end of one. The Dutch would six more threes in the second quarter giving them ten in the first half pushing the lead to 44-25 at half. The Orabs battled back and cut the lead down to 9 late in the third by the strong defense and hot shooting from Kaleb Ackerman scoring 11 in the quarter but Sheldon still trailed after three quarters 57-46. MOC Floyd Valley came out in the fourth on a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach and post a 73-58 victory.

The Dutch were led in double figures with 25 points form Alex Van Kalsbeek and 13 from Kyle Christy. The Orabs had three players in double figures led by Ackerman with 23, Jordan Jefferies with 12 and 11 from Tye Sudbeck.

The Dutch improve to 12-2 overall and 11-1 in Sioux land and the Orabs fall to 4-11 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

The Orabs will be on the road Tuesday night at Sibley Ocheyedan and the next doubleheader for MOC-FV will be on the road Tuesday night at Okoboji.
