Raiders Host Jamestown For Conference Opener

Orange City, Iowa — A couple of teams on a roll of late meet up when Northwestern plays host to the University of Jamestown on Saturday, March 20, in the GPAC opener for both squads. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3pm in Orange City.

Northwestern has won five straight and six of its last seven games for a 13-5 overall record. The Jimmies come to Orange City with a 15-5 record and have won five of their last six.

Northwestern leads the rivalry 6-4, going 2-1 against the Jimmies during the last season they played (2019). The Raiders won both regular season meetings that year but lost in the GPAC tournament. The teams did not play during the CoVID-shortened 2020 season and were first paired against each other in 2005.

The Jimmies split against No.2 Science & Arts of Oklahoma last time out, earning a 2-1, eight-inning win in game one before dropping the second 8-4. The loss in game two was the first for Jamestown since an 11-8 setback to Friends on March 7. Jamestown is 15-5 overall and swept both Tabor and Bethany (Kan.) prior to its games vs USAO.

Longtime coach Kevin Gall is in his 21st season as the head of the Jimmies program, owning over 550 wins since taking over in 1999. He led the Jimmies to a 31-20 record in 2019, tying for fourth place in the GPAC with an 11-11 mark. Last year, Jamestown went 12-7 and returns six starters and 13 players from that squad.

The Raiders have won five straight games, six of their last seven, for a 13-5 record heading into Saturday’s doubleheader against Jamestown. After a 2-2 split in a four-game set against Benedictine, Northwestern has wins over Tabor, Saint Mary (Kan.), Oklahoma Wesleyan and Hannibal LaGrange (Mo.).
