Toby Lorenzen Steps Down as Lions Head Football Coach

central lyon logoRock Rapids Iowa — According to a press release from the Central Lyon School District longtime Central Lyon and Central Lyon/George Little Rock head football coach, Toby Lorenzen, has informed administration that he will be stepping down from his head football coaching position, effective in the fall 2017.

Coach Lorenzen has stated that he has enjoyed every minute of coaching football for the district and cherishes the relationships he has forged with his many coaches and players over the past 29 years in the program.

Although a tough decision, Coach Lorenzen is now excited and proud to see someone else have the same opportunity to take on this lead role in a program with a strong tradition, like the one he has helped build at Central Lyon/George Little-Rock. Coach Lorenzen will continue teaching at Central Lyon and continue as head girls track coach.

Coach Lorenzen has been a coach in the Central Lyon and Central Lyon George Little Rock football program for 29 years, 22 of those years as the head coach.

From 1995 to 2016 Lorenzen has put together a career record of 163-66 including 10 District Championships, 16 Playoff appearances and his teams have appeared in 5 Championship Games. The Lions claimed the 2006 Class 2A State Championship.

Over the course of his tenure Lorenzen has coached 24 1st team all-state players and 17 Shrine Bowl Participants. He was an Assistant Coach in the Iowa Shrine Bowl in 1998 and was the Head Coach of the Iowa Shrine Bowl North Squad 2014.
