Orange City, Iowa — B.J. Van Roekel (Larchwood, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Northwestern College next year.
Van Roekel is a 6’6” forward who played four years for West Lyon High School. Van Roekel averaged 13.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and totaled 26 blocks in an injury-shortened senior season. Last year, he played a key role on a West Lyon team that captured the 2014 class 1A state championship with a 23-5 record. Van Roekel also was a member of West Lyon’s state championship football team as a junior. An honor roll student, Van Roekel plans to major in agri-business at Northwestern. He is the son of Larry and Deb.
“B.J. is a post player with size, good hands and good feet,” commented head coach Kris Korver. “B.J. has been part of state championship teams in both football and basketball. As he focuses on one sport, we are looking forward to seeing him improve and mature as a basketball player. We are excited that B.J. will be joining us here at Northwestern College.”
