The City Of Sheldon Is Over Budget For Snow Removal

Sheldon, Iowa — This winter seems to have dumped so much snow on northwest Iowa.

Sheldon Public Works Director Todd Uhl says this has been a busy year for Sheldon street crews.

Uhl says the snow budget is all used up. Through the 16th of March, he says, 118 percent of the overtime budget has been used. This means it is over by 18 percent and, according to Uhl, the fiscal year doesn’t end until June 30th. He says 131 percent of the fuel budget has been used up and the equipment repair is at 100 percent.

How does he figure out the budget? Uhl says that he budgets what he feels is an average year and most of the time the snow removal budget has money left over. This year was different though, the budget was used up plus more. Uhl says the city will need to do a budget amendment to correct amounts and transfer reserve dollars.

Uhl says he doesn’t think the budget will change much for next year but there will be a budget review.

If anything changes, Uhl says, it won’t be anything major.
