Hawarden, Iowa — An Aurelia man has been arrested on multiple felony charges in connection with the alleged possession of child sex abuse material.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Hawarden Police Department, 66-year-old Timothy Waddell of Aurelia was arrested on a warrant on Monday.
In his statement, the officer says that from October 2024 to March 2025, officers with the Hawarden Police Department received a number of digital media storage devices and a binder that contained suspected child sexual abuse material that they say had allegedly been located inside a Hawarden home that had been owned by Waddell until October 2024. They tell us the items were sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Cyber Crime Bureau for forensic examination. They recently said the devices contained 23 picture files of confirmed child sex abuse material. They tell us the devices were linked to Waddell.
He was charged with six counts of possession of child sex abuse material, a class D felony. If convicted on all counts and ordered to serve the terms consecutively, Waddell could face up to 30 years in prison.
No court dates have yet been set in the case.
At last report, Waddell remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $30,000 cash or surety bond.
